Correct Medicine? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Each disease is different from each other. We cannot use one pill for all ailments. The difficult task is in finding out what is the sickness and prescribe the correct medicine. There are about 40 over different meditation objects to suit each temperament. For example, for a lustful person, meditate on death for a caring person, meditate on compassion, for a person with short temper, meditate on breath for an intellectual person, meditate on Emptiness But even then, in a single day, a person can be all of the above, lustful, angry, caring, intellectual. The state of mind can even change from minute to minute. But generally the ultimate goal is Self-Realization, which is actually meditation on Emptiness. All of the other meditation objects are merely paths towards Emptiness. Just like we have morality compassion and wisdom. We teach morality to children first, because at their level, it is what they understand easiest. But to an intellectual, or someone who has advanced in sprituality, we go straight to the point, ie, "Emptiness"... Emptiness here means realizing that at the core of the world is a calm centre which is pure awareness. This Pure Awareness is what knows. For example if you look at the computer monitor in front of you, you know instinctively that it is NOT YOU. Why? Because it is 'outside'. Now look closer, can you see your hands. Applying the same analogy, you also know that your hands are NOT YOU. Why? Because it is still 'outside'. Outside of what? The mind. Now look even closer... can you think of yourself? Your name..... Immediate images of your self comes to mind. Applying the same analogy, you also know that those images is NOT YOU. Therefore You are NOT YOU. You (or I) is just a concept - an image. Then what is it that is aware of all the above..... . . . . . . . Pure Awareness....... which is another word for Emptiness (Sunyata) Then out of this Emptiness, pure awareness, when the first primordial thought arises, the Entire world (which is conceptual) is born. Reality is born every second. That is why we say: Form is Emptiness and Emptiness is Form because Form is born out of Emptiness
